Hi, my name is Sam Shnoze . I am a German soldier in World War I.I am 23 years old and I have one wife named Linda and two sons. Their names are Aldein and Carson. I never get to see my family since I have been in the war. In the war I speciualize in machine guns.
Week 1 Dec. 8th
Germany is involved in World War I because my nation had an allience with Austria Hungary called the Central Powers. If war broke out we would fight on the same side. Also, we had to defend ourselves from any invasion and we had to show that we are the strongest army in Europe and that we need more respect from other Europeans! So the three main reasons we were involved in World War I was to help our friends from Austria Hungary, show we are the strongest and get more respect.
Germany was proud of their empires, that is called Nationalism. Germany wanted to prevent France from imposing a protectorate on Morocco. That is Imperialism.
MAJOR NEWS !When the Archduke, Frances Ferdined, announced that he was going to visit Sarajevo some people didn't like that. A group called the Black Hand chose to take action, they planned to kill him. On June 28th they tried their plan. One of the guys threw a bomb but missed. The second guy had shot the duke and his wife and they both had died. This lead to Austria declaring war on Serbia. We told Austria-Hungary that we would back them up. Serbia asked Russia to help them, Russia asked France to help them. Britain came to help France and Russia and later Italy came to help us, Germany. This is the main cause of World War I.
Week 2 Dec. 15th- OUR BATTLE PLAN
I was involved in the battle of Mons. I arrived in France on 14th August, 1914. On the way to meet the French Army at Charleroi, the 70,000 strong BEF met us at Mons. The British Commander Sir John French, deployed the British infantry corps, under the leadership of General Horace Smith-Dorrien, General Edmund Allenby and the cavalry division was kept in reserve. To stop us, orders were given to a group of Royal Fusiliers to destroy the bridges over the Mons-Conde Canal. The men came under our heavy fire and during the operation, five men, including Private Sidney Godley, Captain Theodore Wright and Corporal Charles Jarvis, won the Victoria Cross. On the morning of August 23rd, General Alexander von Kluck and his 150,000 soldiers attacked the British positions. Although our First Army suffered heavy losses from British rifle fire, Sir John French was forced to instruct his outnumbered forces to retreat. French favoured a withdrawal to the coast but the British war minister, Lord Kitchener, ordered the British Expeditonary Force to retreat to the River Marne.
We mostly used Maching Guns in the War. The machine Gun forced armies to build trenches. It killed alot of people in a short amount of time and it helped us hold off enemies to. It weighed over 100 pounds in 1914. By 1918 the lewis light maching gun weighed 20 to 30 pounds.

Its very cold out here in the trenches. I havent seen my family in months and I miss them very much. Alot of my buddies have died and it really hurts me not to have them with me anymore. Soldiers are getting sick from the cold and diseases. Sorry I havent wrote in a while, I havent had time to. I will try to write soon but I cant make any promises...
This propaganda poster is for our nation. It says "WE TEACH YOU TO RUN!" It shows partriotic appeals at home in Germany and it shows Emotional appeals because we are playing on people's emotions and making them scared of us. This poster has different nations running away from our feared army!
RUSSIA'S EXIT
Russia's Exit was a surprise to us. In some way we wanted Russia to stay in the war because they were much weaker than us so it would be easier for us to beat them. But the bad thing that we didnt want to happen was the U.S entering the war. The U.S. had a much stronger army than us so we were worried about them beating us. But we will try our hardest anyway. Your going down U.S. ! December 18, 1914
Its getting close to Christmas. That makes me really miss my family alot. I wish I could see my children and get them Christmas presents. A couple more of my buddies have died, its getting harder everyday to make it through this tragic war. The only thing that makes me want to keep going is my family and when this is all over with I will get to see them hopefully. I didn't think I would be able to write this soon but im glad I got to. Ill write again sometime.
CHRISTMAS TRUCE !
On December 24 we put up Christmas trees and Chinese lanterns along the front line. We also walked up toward the British trenches shouting "Hello, I want to talk to you." Ignoring orders, small groups of soldiers drank a toast and exchanged gifts like chocolate or jam. We also played soccer against a Scottish regiment.
December 25, 1914
Well its Christmas day...Merry Christmas.I cried alot today, it is just so hard to not be able to see my family. I dont think that anybody but the soldiers here could miss their family as much as I do. I wrote to them a couple of days ago to tell them how much I love them and how I miss them. I also wished them a Merry Christmas. This time next year I promised them I will be home for Christmas with them, like its suppose to be. People are suppose to be home enoying their time with their families and not sitting in a trench fighting. Yesterday was a good thing for everybody. I think it actually helped some people and gave them a little peace. Which is something that this world needs is peace.Well have a Happy Holidays.
TREATY OF VERSAILLES :(Ughh, the treaty of versailles. We the Germans should NOT have to pay all the war damages! We are not happy about this AT ALL! We are actually very very mad about it.The least thing that could have happened is that everybody should have to take some blame on the war. Its not like we destroyed Britian all by ourselves. We had to take the blame for causing the war, pay the damages(which costed over 30 billion!), and pensions to the wives and families. And unfortunantly it would limit our military that all those other chicken nations were afraid of! We had to return Alsace and Lorraine to France and the treaty stripped us from our overseas colonies. We had to sign the treaty because we had no choice... But this treaty would NEVER BE FORGOTTEN and would start an even worse war. One thing is for sure is that I will not be in that war, ones enough for me.
RETURNING HOME !!!!!
Wow its unexplainable to the joy that I felt returning home. I got to see my family! I was full of excitment, emotions, and pride. I felt like I was on top of the world when I hugged my family. That would be the best day of my life. I felt bad for my town, I felt like we left them to survive on their own when all the families needed their husbands home and not fighting in a war that we started. It was hard to get back to my "normal life" I had trouble sleeping. I wanted to stay with my family every second because I didn't want to lose them again. I never want to leave them...ever. The only thing I have to say is im happy to be home!
